Best Business Class Airlines in the World

Business class has changed beyond recognition in the last decade. The narrow recliners of the past have given way to private suites with sliding doors, fully flat beds, double beds for couples, dine-on-demand menus and free Wi-Fi. On the best airlines, business class now rivals the first class of only a few years ago.

But quality still varies enormously, not only between airlines but between aircraft within the same airline. This guide ranks the top business class airlines in the world today, explains what makes each one special and shares practical tips for choosing the right flight and seat.

How We Ranked the Best Business Class Airlines

We looked at four things that matter most to travellers:

  1. The seat: privacy, bed length, direct aisle access and a door
  2. The service: crew, dining, drinks and amenities
  3. The ground experience: lounges, priority services and transfers
  4. Consistency: how reliably the airline delivers its best product across its fleet

We also considered the industry's best-known benchmark, the Skytrax World Airline Awards. In the 2026 awards, Skytrax named Qatar Airways the World's Best Business Class for the 13th time, followed by Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, ANA and Hainan Airlines.

1. Qatar Airways: Qsuite

Qatar's Qsuite remains the benchmark for business class. Every suite has a sliding door, centre suites can be combined into a double bed, and groups of four can create a private space facing one another. Service is dine-on-demand with an excellent menu, pyjamas, a generous amenity kit and free Wi-Fi.

The ground experience at Hamad International Airport in Doha, including the vast Al Mourjan Business Lounge, is equally impressive. Qatar also won Skytrax's award for the World's Best Business Class Lounge in 2026.

Tip: Qsuite is not on every aircraft. Check the seat map before booking, as some Boeing 787s use a different seat.

2. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is famous for its service. The crew are polished and attentive, and the “Book the Cook” service lets you pre-order a main course from an extensive menu before you fly. Seats on the A350 and A380 are very wide, and Wi-Fi is complimentary.

The current business seat does not have a door, and a new generation seat is expected over the next couple of years. Even so, the overall experience, from Singapore Changi Airport to touchdown, remains one of the best in the sky.

3. Cathay Pacific: Aria Suite

Cathay's Aria Suite, introduced on refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, is one of the newest business class products in the world. Each suite has a sliding door, a large screen, Bluetooth audio and wireless charging, and it has been widely praised by reviewers. Cathay's lounges in Hong Kong are among the best anywhere.

Tip: older business seats remain on other Cathay aircraft, so look for the Aria Suite on the seat map.

4. ANA: The Room

ANA's business class suite, The Room, is one of the most spacious business seats ever built, with a door, a very wide seat and a large screen. Combined with exceptional Japanese service and food, it is a superb way to fly to and from Tokyo. It is available on selected Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

5. Japan Airlines

JAL's newer Airbus A350-1000 business class suite features a door, generous space and headrest speakers, alongside some of the best food in the sky. JAL's attention to detail, from bedding to tea service, makes it a strong rival to ANA.

6. STARLUX

The Taiwanese airline STARLUX, launched in 2020, has quickly built a reputation for elegant, design-led cabins. Its Airbus A350 business suites have doors, large screens and thoughtful touches, along with pyjamas and a strong drinks list.

7. Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines' business class is best known for its food, prepared and presented on board by flying chefs on many long-haul routes. The seats vary by aircraft, but Istanbul's huge network makes Turkish one of the most convenient business class options for connecting between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

8. EVA Air: Royal Laurel

EVA Air's Royal Laurel class offers excellent catering, including a partnership with Taiwan's famous Din Tai Fung restaurants, along with pyjamas and good champagne. It often represents outstanding value, especially to and from Taipei.

9. Air France

Air France's newest business class seat, found on refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and in a similar form on the A350, has a door, a large screen and an elegant French design. Paired with improving lounges in Paris, it is one of Europe's best business class options. Air France was also named the World's Best First Class airline in the 2026 Skytrax awards.

10. Emirates

Emirates' business seat on the A380 is no longer the most private, but the airline's onboard bar, generous drinks list, huge entertainment system and vast network keep it among the most popular choices. Its newest cabins, including refreshed aircraft with updated seats, are gradually entering service.

Business Class Worth Watching

  • Etihad: its new Airbus A350 business suite has reverse herringbone seats with doors, Bluetooth audio and wireless charging, with bedding by Armani/Casa.
  • British Airways Club Suites: every Club Suite has a door, and BA has been rolling out improvements alongside its new First suite. See our British Airways First Class review for how it compares.
  • Qantas: the airline's new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for its ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise routes are expected to bring an all-new business suite.

How to Choose the Best Business Class Flight

Check the aircraft and seat map

The single most important tip: the same airline can operate very different business seats. Always check which aircraft operates your flight and look at the seat map before paying.

Look for direct aisle access and a door

A 1-2-1 layout means every seat has direct aisle access. A door adds privacy and helps you sleep, though it is less important than a good bed and a quiet cabin.

Consider the hub airport

If you are connecting, the hub matters. Doha, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Istanbul have excellent lounges and smooth transfers, which makes a real difference on a long journey.

Compare points and cash

Business class is one of the best uses of airline miles and credit card points. Partner airlines in the same alliance can often be booked with the same points, and paid fares can drop significantly during sales.

Choose the right seat

Window seats are usually best for solo travellers, while centre pairs suit couples. Avoid seats close to galleys and toilets on overnight flights.

Business Class Etiquette and Comfort Tips

  • Sleep strategy: on overnight flights, eat in the lounge or ask for a quick meal so you can maximise rest.
  • Hydration: drink plenty of water, especially if you are enjoying the champagne.
  • Dress code: smart casual is ideal. Many airlines provide pyjamas, but comfortable layers are always useful.
  • Packing: a small pouch with essentials makes a long flight easier, as we explain in what to pack for a luxury vacation.
